Jolly Phonics - sounds and reading
SAILS reading programme
Schedule for SAILS readers is as follows:
Monday: children are given a new book. Homework is reading only.
Tuesday: Teachers listen to reading in rotation. Children read book at home and do worksheet 1 (dated)
Wednesday: Children continue to read work at home. Homework is reading only.
Thursday: Teachers listen to children reading in rotation. Children read book at home and do worksheet 2

Friday: teachers listen to children reading in rotation. No homework given at weekend.
In your sound book the word box lists which are called 'a' are for supplementary work, if your child is progressing through the lists 1,2,3,etc with no problems please move them onto the next list.
Please encourage your child to tell you what is happening in the pictures and to ‘read’ the story to you. Ask your child questions about the book, for example:
Who is the author?
Who is the illustrator?
Can you predict what might happen from the title/cover/pictures?
How do you think the character felt when...?
Have them reflect on the story by asking questions like 'what was your favourite part?' or ask them to
retell the story in their own words or even act out scenes from the story.
Maths:
In maths this month we are continuing to look at number bonds, the ways of making numbers 1-7. For
example, how can we make the number 5? 5 and 0, 0 and 5, 4 and 1, 1 and 4, 3 and 2, 2 and 3.
Encourage your child to show you the number bonds on their fingers, using toys or things from around the house. Practice writing the numbers 0-6 with your child and count regularly with them.
We are also learning how to read and interpret data and will be making bar charts to display data. In reading and interpreting data we will be using vocubulary such as 'more than', 'less than', 'the most', 'the least'. We will be doing surveys in class of children's favourite foods, modes of transpost, favourite toys etc. to explore this topic.
Library Book:
Please note the mobile library will visit us every second Thursday so your child’s library book is due back on Wednesday 9th January.
