November News
Science for fun:
Science week 2012 runs from 11-18th
November. To celebrate it we will be doing lots of fun science experiments in
school. We would love it if parents could come in to help with some science for
fun experiments on Thursday 15th November 8.30-9am in the Ash class. The theme
of our experiments will be 'sounds around us', we will be making some musical
instruments from junk materials, experimenting with making sound travel and
watching how sound causes vibrations. Your support would be greatly
appreciated.

Wednesday 7th November with James Costello, please ensure that your child is

Homework:
I have updated the homework section
of the blog with November homework. Please ensure you practice
the letter
sounds and reading with your child every night. If your child is experiencing
any problems or is finding the homework not challenging enough please let me
know. Please note that homework folders and books must be brought into school
every day for checking.
Aistear:
The theme for October is The Post Office. We are learning
through play in dramatic role-play,
reading, writing, junk art and
construction stations. Each day we get to pick which station we work at.
Please continue to bring in old cardboard boxes, toilet rolls, scrap paper etc.
to keep us going in our junk art station! Please see the parental involvement
section under 'more...' for details of the items we
would like your help in
sourcing for our Aistear stations. The junk art the children create each day
will be sent home on that day. Please talk to your child about the post office,
the role of the postman and encourage them to write letters, cards, postcards
etc for fun.
Shared Reading:
Thank you
also to the parents who have come in so far for shared reading on Monday
mornings. All parents are welcome to join us 8.30-8.40am every Monday. We
would also love to hear stories in other
languages so if you have any
children's story books at home that you would like to share with us in another
language we would love to hear them too!
Maths:
In maths this month we are starting
adding. We are not yet using the addition symbols (plus + and = equals). For
now we say our sums as follows:
2 and 2 altogether makes
4
Please practice this at home informally with your child. They
will love to show you how we add on our bunny ears!
We are also learning about time. Please use
words like morning, afternoon, evening and night with your child, maybe discuss
things you do at certain times with them. We are also learning how to read the
time on the clock in hourly units 1 o'clock, 2 o'clock etc. Please draw your
childs attention to the big hand at 12 and that the little hand should point
directly to the second number. Practice drawing the hands on a clock or make
one at home on paper or card!
Learn
Together:
We are learning about children's rights and
Diwali this month.
